Napoli Sign Jens-Lys Michel Cajuste

On Wednesday, SSC Napoli announced the signing of 23-year-old Jens-Lys Michel Cajuste.

The Swedish midfielder spent three-and-a-half seasons at FC Midtjylland, where he made 79 appearances in all competitions, including 12 appearances in European cup competitions (four Champions League qualifiers, four Champions League final matches and four Europa League final matches).

In January of 2022, Cajuste was sold to Stade Reims for €5 million. Though he didn’t feature often, the 1.88-meter-tall midfielder still managed to score two goals in nine appearances (446 minutes) in his first season with the French club. Cajuste made 31 league appearances in his first full season at Reim, 14 from the first minute and the remainder as the first man off the bench.

On paper, Cajuste will replace Tanguey Ndombele, who returned to Tottenham at the end of his loan spell with Napoli. However, the Swede has the characteristics to be a suitable backup to André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who is currently recovering from a calf injury and could miss up to a month in January at the Africa Cup of Nations, should Cameroon earn qualification in September.
