New Napoli Stamp Revealed

On Thursday, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy issued a new, celebratory stamp dedicated to SSC Napoli, designed by artist Gaetano Ieluzzo, printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato SpA and distributed by the Poste Italiene.

The stamp, which is part of the thematic series Lo Sport, will be available in sheets of 12, and 1.5 million total stamps will be produced. A four-fold A4 format philatelic folder containing the 12-stamp sheet, a postcard, first-day cover, a philatelic card and the illustrative bulletin will retail for €30.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis commented on the stamp.

“For us it is a great satisfaction to make our third historic championship eternal through the issue of a postage stamp. Right now our city is at the centre of international attention and we are proud to have become the symbol of a real Neapolitan Revolution through a model of sport that is as sustainable as it is successful.”

Undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto also commented on the issuance.

“The issuance of this stamp is intended to be a testimony of recognition by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy to a team, SSC Napoli, which in this 2022/23 Serie A campaign managed not only to win its third Scudetto in its history, dominating the standings for a good part of the championship, but it was also able to express a unique quality of football on the European scene, generating an enthusiasm and admiration that has infected many fans around the world. A team and a club that have become a symbol of sporting excellence, collective commitment and ties with the local area; a symbol of Made in Italy, to be precise.”

The stamp is the second tribute produced by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato SpA, after the commemorative coin released in June.

The official silver medal of the Italian champions contains colored elements minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in 925% silver, weight 18 grams and diameter 32 mm, in case with customized box for Poste Italiane and certificate of guarantee.

On the obverse, polychrome, the symbol of the Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli with the dates “2022 – 2023” at the top in reference to the football season of victory, surrounded by a crown with the inscription “SSC NAPOLI CAMPIONE D’ITALIA” completed at the bottom by the symbol polychrome of the Serie A football championship.

On the reverse, a scene of popular jubilation in a typical city alley, to represent the strong bond of the city with the Neapolitan club.
