On Monday, Cristiano Giuntoli and Fiorentina CEO Joe Barone were the recipients of the Managers’ Transfer Market Award at the Inside the Sport Awards.
Above all, the Napoli Sporting Director credited Luciano Spalletti, who received the Coach of the Year Award.
“I have to say that Luciano pulled off a great feat, an extraordinary feat. He put his head in the tank, he wanted this result. Last year we finished third, creating the foundation for this Napoli. Great credit goes to him, the club, the players and my collaborators. I think Italian football needs people like him. He’s a scholar. He talks about players and results. He has reached maximum balance between beauty and simplicity, dribbling and vertical play. This didn’t happen by chance, he looked for it. The boys were extraordinary, they are great players, but he pulled off an extraordinary feat. Thanks Luciano.”
Inevitably, Giuntoli was asked about his future, but the Napoli DS remained focused on the current season.
“Right now I want to talk about the past. When you get an award you get it for the past. In the future we’ll see if I’m good enough to get another one.”
