Victor Osimhen Named EA Sports Player Of The Month For January

On Friday, Lega Serie A announced that SSC Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was voted the EA Sports Player of the Month for January. Osimhen will be presented with the trophy prior to Napoli’s match against Cremonese at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.

The Nigerian received the most votes by fans in a poll that included Paulo Dybala (Roma), Lautaro Martinez (Inter), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Luis Alberto (Lazio). The five best players of the month were selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with their Hawk-Eye system.

It’s the third time this season a Napoli player has won the award, after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earned the award for August and Kim Min-jae earned the award for September. Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo commented on the award.

“In the month of January, Victor Osimhen confirmed himself as an authentic Top Player, one of the strongest strikers on the international scene. With five goals in five matches, the Nigerian striker consolidated his place at the top of the goalscoring charts and once again demonstrated his leading role in a team that never stops surprising. In fact, this is the third time in five months that a Napoli player has been awarded the Player of the Month award, a demonstration of Napoli`s ability to discover and develop great talents”

The announcement comes after Osimhen earned the Goal of the Month award for his goal against Roma. It also comes after Luciano Spalletti was named the Coach of the Month, which he will also received prior to the Cremonese Match. De Siervo previously commented on Spalletti’s achievement as well.

“For the second time Luciano Spalletti has been awarded best coach of the month. In addition to the beautiful game and tactical discipline, the Tuscan coach has been able to transmit to his players a winning mentality that has led Napoli to obtain 12 points out of the 15 available in January, with 11 goals scored and only 3 conceded, beating prestigious opponents such as Juventus and Roma. If Napoli is a compact and focused group in every component, the merit, in tandem with the club, is certainly the work of Luciano Spalletti and his staff”
