Napoli U19 Concede in Stoppage Time to Lose 1-0 to Frosinone U19

Three days after conceding a stoppage time winner to Sassuolo U19, Napoli Primavera conceded in the 91st minute to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Frosinone.

The match on Sunday was Napoli’s third out of four against direct rivals, after opening the season with matches against Lecce and Cesena.

Though the first half was fairly uneventful, Frosinone looked the more likely side to score throughout the match. Valerio Boffelli and Nosa Obaretin were instrumental in keeping the gialloblu off the score sheet.

Frosinone turned up the pressure in the second half and created numerous quality opportunities to score. At the hour mark, Andrea Peres dribbled into the area before Ayoub Afi stepped in for the shot from close range, but it finished just over the bar.

Frosinone came close again 10 minutes before the break after substitute Simone Condello turned in the area but somehow Boffelli got a hand on the shot.

Meanwhile, Napoli failed to record a single shot on target in the entire second half. Nevertheless, the azzurrini came close to opening the scoring late in the match after Gennaro Iaccarino won a free kick on the left wing. The midfielder played an in-swinging cross into the area, where central defender Luigi D’Avino won the header but the ball glanced off the top of the bar and stayed out.

The match appeared to be heading for a draw when Frosinone made one last foray forward in stoppage time. Alessandro Selvini dribbled into the left side of the area and, despite being well-marked by Obaretin, played an excellent cross towards the first post. Substitute Simone Milazzo was first to the ball and put a header past a helpless Boffelli to give Frosinone a very late lead.

Unable to create any chances in the dying minutes of the match, the azzurrini suffered their third defeat in four matches to start the 2022/23 campaign. Napoli will have a week to prepare for a very difficult match against Roma.
