Lorenzo Colombo scored a wonder goal minutes after Eljif Elmas scored his first of the season as Lecce snatched two points from Napoli at the Maradona.
With a busy schedule ahead, Luciano Spalletti made six changes to the squad he fielded against Fiorentina at the weekend. The result was a Napoli side that looked disjointed and bereft of ideas in the attack.
In the 25th minute, Tanguy Ndombele – one of those six changes – conceded a penalty kick after fouling Federico Di Francesco just inside the corner of the area. However, Ndombele was bailed out by Alex Meret, who got a firm hand Lorenzo Colombo’s shot towards the bottom corner.
Two minutes later, Eljif Elmas redirected Matteo Politano’s shot into the bottom corner to score his first of the season and to put Napoli ahead 1-0.
The lead didn’t last long though, as Colombo scored with a wonder-strike from outside the area – his first ever goal in Serie A.
Spalletti reverted to his regular starters in the second half, bringing on Stanislav Lobotka, Piotr Zielinksi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Hirving Lozano. Napoli took control of the match, but despite 19 shot attempts and 71% ball possession , gli Azzurri failed to find a winner.
After scoring nine goals through their first two matches, Napoli have only scored once in their last two, both of which resulted in draws.
Napoli will be back in action on Saturday to take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
