On Sunday, SSC Bari shocked Hellas Verona FC in their Coppa Italia Round of 32 elimination fixture. Bari, who are owned by Aurelio De Laurentiis and managed by his son Luigi, fell behind early but responded well. I Gallotti scored four goals in the span of 48 minutes to win the match 4-1.
The first of those goals was scored at the half-hour mark by Michael Folorunsho, currently on loan at Bari from Napoli. Walid Cheddira drove towards the bye line before playing a low cross in front of goal. Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo made a mess of the cross and Folorunsho was in the right place at the right time to head in the rebound.
Folorunsho, who played the full 90 minutes, spoke after the match.
“I am very happy to have scored my first in a Bari shirt. I am also happy with the great team performance. Cheddira is a great footballer and I think he too will have an important career and I wish him the best. In my opinion we are a great team that will be able to do well in this championship. We showed today that we have a lot of quality and we just have to continue this way.”
Cheddira, who also played the full 90 minutes, was the man of the match after scoring Bari’s remaining three goals. He has now scored five goals in the tournament after bagging a brace in the preliminary round against Padova.
Bari will play against Parma in the Round of 16.
