Napoli’s International Break in Review – June 19

Three Napoli players were in action on Monday:  Eljif Elmas, Amir Rrahmani and Giovanni Simeone.

No Contest

Eljif Elmas played the full 90 minutes in North Macedonia’s UEFA Euro Group C qualification match against England. The Napoli midfielder/winger lined up in the centre of North Macedonia’s midfield five, but got very little service in the 7-0 drubbing. With England dominating possession, North Macedonia spent the majority of the match defending.

Uneventful Till It Wasn’t

Wearing the captain’s armband, Amir Rrahmani played the full 90 minutes in Kosovo’s UEFA Euro Group I qualification match against Belarus. The match was rather uneventful for more than three quarters of the match. However, in the 73rd minute, Belarus scored the first of two goals in three minutes. Kosovo pulled one back late in the match after a weak penalty decision from Austrian match official Julian Weinberger. However, it wasn’t enough as Belarus hung on for the victory.

Finally

Giovanni Simeone played the final five minutes of Argentina’s friendly against Indonesia, replacing Julián Álvarez in the 85th minute. It was the Napoli striker’s first appearance for the Albiceleste since 2018, after sitting on the bench for friendlies against Curaçao and Australia. Nevertheless, Simeone was proud to represent his country.

“Proud to wear the National Team shirt and very happy to have enjoyed it with my teammates on this tour. A beautiful closing to a spectacular season…Vamos Argentina”
