Kvaratskhelia Bows out of UEFA Euro U21 Championship

On Thursday, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia confirmed via a post on Facebook that he will not participate in the UEFA European U21 Championship, hosted in two nations: Romania and his home country of Georgia. The Napoli winger will participate in the senior team’s UEFA Euro qualifiers against Cyprus on the 17th of June and Scotland on the 20th of June, before enjoying the U21 Championship as a fan.

“It is a great honor to be a member of the expanded team that will play at the European Championship in a few days. After the longest football season for me, it is difficult to play in such a high level competition again in such a short period of time. Therefore, I want the fans to know from me about my position.  Despite my desire, after a difficult season for sports reasons, I will be an ordinary fan of our national team with you at the U-21 European Championship. Now I am fully focused on the games that await the Georgian national team against Cyprus and Scotland. I want to wish everyone great success at the youth championship, my teammates, the entire national team, the coaching staff and Georgia.”

With the announcement, it is increasingly likely that Kvaratskhelia will participate fully in Napoli’s summer retreats in July.
