Italian media outlet Calcio e Finanza has published its estimates of the distribution of Serie A TV rights revenue, including a breakdown of how the distribution is calculated.
Equal Share
In total, Serie A generated €1.018 billion for the 2022/23 campaign. Half of the revenue (€509 million) is split equally amongst the 20 Serie A clubs. Thus, each club automatically collects €25.5 million.
Catchment Area
Catchment area comprises 20% of TV revenue distribution, split into two components: TV Ratings (8%) and Stadium Spectators (12%)
TV Ratings
8% of total revenue (€81.4) is divided between the 20 clubs based on television ratings. Napoli generated €8.8 million from it’s share of television ratings, ranking fourth in the league behind Juventus (€12.7 million), Milan (€10.3 million) and Inter (€9.0 million).
Stadium Spectators
12% of total revenue (€122.2) is divided between the 20 clubs based on stadium attendance. Napoli generated €9.6 million from it’s share of stadium attendance, ranking sixth in the league behind Inter (€19.0 million), Milan (€16.0 million), Roma (€13.7 million), Juventus (€11.2 million) and Lazio (€10.7 million).
Sporting Results
Sporting results comprises 30% of TV revenue distribution, split into three components: Current Season’s Results (15%); Results of the Previous Five Years (10%); and Historical Results (5%).
Current Season’s Results
The Current Season’s Results has two components: Placement (12%) and Points (3%). Finishing top of the table, Napoli earned the most revenue in the league (€21.7 million) based on the results of the current season.
Results of the Previous Five Seasons
10% of total revenue (€101.8) is divided between the 20 clubs based on Results of the Previous Five Seasons. Napoli generated €11.4 million based on the results of the previous five seasons, ranking third in the league behind Juventus (€15.9 million) and Inter (€13.3 million).
Historical Results
15% of total revenue (€50.9) is divided between the 20 clubs based on Historical Results, both on the national level and international level, dating back to the 1946/47 season. Napoli generated €3.3 million based on historical results, ranking seventh in the league behind Juventus (€4.7 million), Milan (€4.6 million), Inter (€4.5 million), Roma (€3.8 million), Fiorentina (€3.6 million) and Lazio (€3.4 million).
