On Thursday, Lega Serie A announced that SSC Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was voted the EA Sports Player of the Month for March. Kvaratskhelia will be presented with the trophy prior to Napoli’s match against Milan at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.
The Georgian received the most votes by fans in a poll that included Napoli teammate Kim Min-jae, Armand Laurienté (Sassuolo), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) and Destiny Udogie (Udinese). The five best players of the month were selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with their Hawk-Eye system.
It’s the fifth time this season that a Napoli player has won the award and the third time for Kvaratskhelia, who also earned the award in August and February. Kim Min-jae earned the award for September and Victor Osimhen was Player of the Month for January. Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo commented on the award.
“The series of successes and awards continues for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the first footballer to be awarded best of the month three times in the same season. Including his performances in March, the Napoli midfielder has scored 12 goals and 10 assists in his first year in Italy so far. Kvaratskhelia has now entered the hearts of all football fans for his high-quality plays, such as the wonderful goal scored against Atalanta, a real gem for the Georgian winger”
Meanwhile, Kvaratskhelia was also named the March Player of the Month by the Associazione Italiana Calciatori (AIC or Italian Footballers Association). The Georgian is the second consecutive Napoli player to win the award after Victor Osimhen was named the February player of the month.
