Luciano Spalletti Wins Andrea Fortunato Award

On Tuesday, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti was one of the recipients of the Andrea Fortunato Award – Sport is Life, promoted by the Fioravante Polito Foundation. Spalletti spoke to the media after the presentation at the Coni Hall of Honour in Rome.

“We absolutely must be responsible and disclose o these current and future generations what is important about the blood passport. It is no longer tolerable that there are people who lose their lives playing sports, at any level. We have seen witnesses and tragedies. Yara’s father was also moved by tragedy experienced and gave an important message, one must not have remorse for not having done everything possible to save lives and teach these kids. We need to use science to prevent these fatalities from happening.”

In addition to Spalletti, other recipients of the award included Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, Director of Raisport, Alessandra de Stefano, and President of US Salernitana, Danilo Iervolino. Iervolino’s club was the first in Italy to adopt blood passports for all it’s members. At the end of his welcome speech, Danilo, who is Neapolitan by birth, gave a nod to Spalletti and his club.

“I am a football president. I am also Neapolitan and a man of the South and I am happy to see Luciano Spalletti and Napoli. This year we hope to bring the Scudetto back to the South.”
