On Friday, Lega Serie A announced that SSC Napoli central defender Kim Min-jae was voted the EA Sports Player of the Month for September. Kim will be presented with the trophy prior to Napoli’s match against Torino at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday.
The South Korean received the most votes by fans in a poll that included Rodrigo Becao (Udinese), Merih Demiral (Atalanta), Theo Hernandez (Milan) and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio). The five best players of the month were selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with their Hawk-Eye system.
It was the second consecutive month a Napoli player won the award, after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was voted the EA Sports Player of the Month for August. Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo commented on the award.
“The sexond consecutive award for best player of the month assigned to a new Napoli player demonstrates how well the Azzurri have worked in the summer transfer market. Kim Min-jae in September proved to be a real wall, capable of leading the defence and opposing two great Serie A strikers like Ciro Immobile and Olivier Giroud. The South Korean is the second defender to deserve the EA Sports Player of the Month, after Koulibaly, whose legacy he picked up at Napoli.”
