An Antonio Satriano brace sealed Roma’s 1-5 victory over Napoli, who suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions.
The match was nearly over shortly after it began, with Roma scoring twice in the first five minutes. Luigi Cherubini opened the scoring in the second minute, picking the top corner after playing a give and go with Jan Oliveras.
Roma doubled their lead two minutes later from a corner kick, which was played to the second post. Benedetto Barba inadvertently redirected the shot-cross from Benjamin Tahirovic into the back of his own goal.
The Giallorossi dominated play for the balance of half, and would have added a third had it not been for a miraculous save by Valerio Boffelli on Claudio Cassano’s shot from outside the area.
Napoli started the second half well, cutting Roma’s lead in half shortly after the restart. Nosa Obaretin scored his first of the campaign, heading in Gennaro Iaccarino’s cross from the right wing.
That gave the Azzurrini hope of getting back in to the match, but it was shortlived. In the 55th minute, Satriano held off Obaretin in the area before laying the ball off to Cassano. The left winger, who happened to be on the right, blasted a shot off the near post and into the back of the goal.
Cassano returned the favour just over ten minutes later, dribbling past Daniel Susko before cutting the ball back to Satriano. The centre forward calmly turned near the penalty spot before firing a low shot past Boffelli to give Roma a 1-4 lead. Satriano added his second of the match (and fifth of the season) with five minutes remaining in normal time.
With the win, Roma moved temporarily to the top of the Primavera 1 table on 10 points, one point ahead of Juventus, Bologna, Torino and Fiorentina, who have all yet to play.
Meanwhile, Napoli remained on three points, having lost four of five matches to start the 2022/23 Primavera 1 campaign. The Azzurrini will be back in action on Tuesday to take on Rangers U19 in the UEFA Youth League.
