Lazio Fined €10,000 for Territorial Chants at the Olimpico

On Tuesday, Lega Serie A issued Official Communication No. 45 for the fifth round matches of the 2022/23 Serie A campaign contested between September 3rd and 5th. These are the words of Sports Judge Gerardo Mastandrea, assisted by Stefania Ginesio and by the representative of the AIA Carlo Moretti:

“Fine of €10,000 to the Lazio Society for having in its supporters, during the match, sung three times an insulting chorus of territorial origin against the supporters of the opposing team, witnessed by all the collaborators of the Federal Prosecutor positioned in the various parts of the stadium.”

The fine follows similar sanctions imposed on Hellas Verona FC and ACF Fiorentina in Napoli’s two previous away fixtures – the only perfect record in Serie A.

In addition to the club, two Lazio players were sanctioned for protests to the officials. Danilo Cataldi was suspended for one match for “uttering a blasphemous expression” towards a match official in the hallway outside of the changing rooms after the match.  Meanwhile, Sergej Milinkovic Savic was issued a warning and fined €1,500 for a second incident related to protesting to the match officials.

Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri was not punished for the choice words he had for the officiating crew after the match.
