Giovanni Simeone is officially an SSC Napoli player. The club finally confirmed the signing five days after the former Hellas Verona player completed his medicals at Villa Stuart on Saturday.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli will pay €3.5 million for the loan, with an option to purchase the striker for €12 million. If Napoli qualify for the Champions League or if Simeone achieves pre-determined goal and appearance targets, the option will become an obligation.
El Cholito replaces Andrea Petagna, who joined AC Monza on August 12th on near-identical payment terms. Though Simeone will likely be an alternative to Victor Osimhen, the pair could potentially be used as a strike duo, particularly if Napoli are behind.
Napoli are Simeone’s fifth Serie A club after Genoa, Fiorentina, Cagliari and Hellas Verona. Since joining Genoa in 2016, the 27 year-old has scored 71 goals in 218 appearances in all competitions.
