Special Celebration for Lorenzo Insigne After First TFC Goal

Lorenzo Insigne opened his MLS account in Toronto FC’s 4-3 victory over Nashville SC on Saturday. The diminutive left winger split between two Nashville players, then fired a shot that dipped into the bottom corner at the near post.

Insigne celebrated the goal by tucking the ball under his shirt and sucking his thumb – an indication that he and his wife Genoveffa (Geni) Darone are expecting their third child.

That was Toronto’s fourth goal of the night after Jonathan Osorio scored a first-half brace and Federico Bernardeschi converted a penalty – his second goal since joining Toronto FC in mid-July.

The goal proved to be the match winner after Walker Zimmerman pulled one back for Nashville in the 84th minute, earning Insigne Man of the Match honours. The victory was Toronto’s first win away from home in MLS since a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on July 4th, 2021.

Toronto FC coach Bob Bradley was happy to see Insigne’s progress after he missed approximately one month due to a calf injury.

“Yeah, he’s a competitor. Obviously you know, we see him getting fitter every week doing more and more and now to be able to get his first goal, came at a good time.”

With the win, Toronto pulled within four points of the Chicago Fire in the final playoff spot with ten matches remaining.
