On Monday, SSC Napoli officially announced Leo Østigård as the club’s newest player. Østigård was spotted completing his medicals during the club’s morning training session at Dimaro Folgarida.
Østigård was presented after Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli hosted Napoli’s final press conference at Dimaro and before the club officially announced the signing.
The 22 year old confirmed that it was his dream to join Napoli and that was the only club he was interested in joining.
“It’s been a long wait, I can say, and the only club I wanted to go to was Napoli, so I’ve been waiting and pushing for that. That was my dream and I’m really happy to be here.”
The Norway international spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Genoa C.F.C, but was owned by Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. The transfer fee has not been disclosed, but according to transfer expert Nico Schira, Napoli paid €5 million euros plus bonuses for the young centre back.
Though owned by Brighton, Østigård spent the last three seasons on loan at various clubs, including FC St. Pauli, Coventry City, Stoke City and Genoa.
