On May 14, 2022, Napoli Calcio Femminile President Rafaele ‘Lello’ Carlino announced that he would be stepping down from his post as club President. A day earlier, Napoli lost 3-1 to Pomigliano and as a result, were relegated back down to Serie B. However, Carlino insists that Napoli’s relegation was not the reason for his resignation.
“A thoughtful decision that is not the fruit of yesterday’s bitter regression. As per the patent between the partners of Napoli Femminile, in fact, the president is elected every two years by the Board of Directors representing the partner’s assembly. Therefore, I would have resigned anyway, even in the case of survival, as I had indicated in recent days to the same partners.”
After leading Napoli Femminile to consecutive promotions from Serie C to Serie A, Carlino handed the reins to Alessandro Maiello. The former president of Napoli’s youth sector, Maiello was elected by the club’s Board of Directors to take Carlino’s place. Maiello is also the CEO of club sponsor Idea Belezza.
Meanwhile, Carlino will remain with the club as Honorary President. Additionally, the positions of Vice President Luigi Rapullino, managing director Francesco Tripodi and director Luciano Cimmino have all been confirmed.
